Recording & Updating Cues

Edward Updated by Edward

The following examples illustrate the process of setting up the fixtures to achieve desired “looks” on stage and recording a series of cues that can be played back during a performance of the show. After the initial cues are recorded, several examples of adjusting the levels and times are shown.

Cue 1: Curtain Warmer

[1] [+] [3] [+] [5] [@] [3][0] [ENTER] – Set levels

[2] [+] [4] [+] [6] [@] [4][0] [ENTER] – Set levels

[RECORD] [EDIT] ‘CUE 1 TEXT’ Curtain Warmer [ENTER] – Record Cue 1 with description “Curtain Warmer”.

Cue 2: Scene 1

[1] [THRU] [6] [@] [5][0] [ENTER] – Adjust levels

[7] [THRU] [1][0] [@] [6][5] [ENTER] – Add new channels

Option 1: [VIEW] + [COLOR] – Displays the “Color” tab of the “Palettes” window

(Tap button labelled “Rose Purple” – A previously recorded color palette). This sets the color for the selected channels.

Option 2: [@] [COLOR] [1] [ENTER] – Applies the same color palette by number rather than Group Name.

[1][1] [FULL] – Add cyclorama

Similar to above, use Option 1 or 2 to apply color palette “Sky Blue” or [COLOR] [2].

[RECORD] [TEXT] ‘CUE 2 TEXT’ Scene 1 [ENTER] – Record Cue 2 with description “Scene 1”.

Cue 3: Spot DSR

[1][2] [@] [7][0] [ENTER] – Bring up spotlight

[@] [POSITION] [1] [ENTER] – Apply pre-recorded Position palette

[@] [COLOR] [3] [ENTER] – Apply pre-recorded Color palette

[RECORD] [TEXT] ‘CUE 3 TEXT’ Spot DSR [ENTER] – Record Cue 3 with description “Spot DSR”.

Cue 4: Spot Out

[1][2] [OUT] – Turn off spotlight

[RECORD] [EDIT] ‘CUE 4 TEXT’ Spot Out [ENTER] – Record Cue 4 with description “Spot Out”.

Cue 5: Fade-To-Black

[SELECT ACTIVE] [OUT] – Turn off all active fixtures

[RECORD] [TIME] ‘CUE 5 TIME’ [4] [EDIT] ‘TEXT’ FTB [ENTER] – Record Cue 5 with description “FTB” and a time of 4 seconds.

Cue 2 Adjustment: Change some levels and update the cue:

[GOTO] [2] [ENTER] – Run Cue 2 which puts it live on stage.

[1] [THRU] [6] [UP] [UP] – Raise Channels 1-6 by 10%.

[UPDATE] [UPDATE] – Store new values for Channels 1-6 in Cue 2. Note that “Default Tracking Record Mode” is “Tracking”. This means that the changes made in Cue 2 will ‘track through’ in subsequent cues. There is an option to update this cue only, thus blocking the changes to subsequent cues if desired. The key sequence would be:

[UPDATE] [CUE] ‘(CHANGED)’ [TRACKING OPTIONS] ‘CUE ONLY’ [ENTER].

Cue 3 Adjustments: Adjust spotlight position and update the palette. Make spotlight level come up faster while Channels 1-6 fade slower:

[GOTO] [3] [ENTER] – Run Cue 3 which puts it live on stage.

[1][2] [ENTER] – Select Channel 12

[POSITION] – Display the Position tab in the Side Bar Cue List. Use the encoder wheels to adjust the position of the beam to the desired location.

[UPDATE] [UPDATE] ‘CUE’ – Displays a dialog to allow updating of the position palette originally referenced when recording the cue. If updating is chosen, any subsequent cue referencing the same palette will use the new position. Otherwise, the palette reference will be replaced with the new position data (hard values) in the cue and the palette will not be updated.

[CUE] [TIME] [1] [TIME] ‘/’ [5] [ENTER] – Change Up Time to 1 second and Down Time to 5 seconds.

Cue 4 Adjustments: Change time for cue execution and add a follow time to run Cue 5 automatically:

[CUE] [4] [TIME] [1] [ENTER] – Change Cue Time to 1 second.

[CUE] [4] [FOLLOW] [5] [ENTER] – Will cause Cue 5 to start 5 seconds after Cue 4 starts.

Cue 5 Adjustments: Make “Fade To Black” slower and add a ‘Smart Block’ flag:

[CUE] [5] [TIME] [7] [ENTER] – Change Cue Time to 7 seconds.

[CUE] [5] [BLOCK] [BLOCK] [ENTER] – Set a block flag for the patched channels in the current cue list. This will prevent any changes to channel intensities in earlier cues from ‘tracking through’.
