Selecting Channels
Updated by Edward
The NEO software provides a rich set of methods for selecting channels. Once selected, all values may be adjusted manually or by applying palettes. These methods may be used for Live and Blind modes.
There are two modes for selecting channels controlled by the [INCLUSIVE MODE] key. In non-inclusive mode (unlit), a new selection will supersede the previous selection. In inclusive mode (red), a new selection will be added to any existing selections.
In the “Classic” view, selected channels are indicated by a red border. In other views, the background color is highlighted.
Channels may be selected by the following methods:
- (channel list) [ENTER] – Select the channels in the list. A channel list can have the following syntax:
(#) – Single channel number
(channel.sub) – Subfixture number
(#) [THRU] (#) – Inclusive range of channels
(channel list) [+] (channel list) – Non-contiguous single or channel ranges
(channel list) ([+] | [-]) ([NEXT] | [LAST]) – Add/subtract a non-contiguous channel by cycling through the patched channels.
(channel list) [-] (channel list) – Exclude channels from a list
(#) [.] [.] (#) [.] [.] (#) – Interleave/Cluster selection. 1st number is start channel, 2nd number is interleaved value, 3rd number is cluster value (optional)
- Using a trackball, mouse or touchscreen – A single channel can be selected by clicking on or touching its square. Multiple channels can be selected by using the “Click & Drag” or “Touch & Drag” method.
- Using the [SELECT] key – Pressing the [SELECT] key displays the select pulldown from which defined selections may be made. There are tabs across the top that provide access to different lists. Repeated pressing of the [SELECT] key will advance through the tabs. The selections available from the “All” tab are taken from the patch detail columns “Color”, “Position” and “Purpose”. The selections available from the “Groups” tab are the result of recording groups. The “Fixture Type” tab contains a list of all the patched fixtures (except Standard Dimmer).
- Using the Quick Select Bar – If present, lists the same items as the Select Pulldown (except Groups). This feature is an option settable from the “View” menu.
- [SHIFT] + [DIMMER] ‘SELECT DIMMER’ (#) [ENTER] = Select the channel by the dimmer # patched to it. The dimmer number can include the universe as well (universe #.dimmer #).
- Using the [SELECT ACTIVE] key – Selects all fixtures with an intensity level above zero. May or may not include channels controlled by submasters depending on the setting of “Include Submasters” in System Properties>Show Defaults.
- Using [SELECT CHANGED] key – Selects all fixtures with adjusted values. May or may not include channels controlled by submasters depending on the setting of “Include Submasters” in System Properties>Show Defaults.
- [SELECT CHANGED] + [+] - For recording and updating purposes, the software internally flags any selected fixtures that have been manually adjusted from the state they were in. This function will set the “changed” flag for all selected fixtures even if no manual changes have been applied.
- Using [SELECT PREV] key – Each press alternates between the current selection and the previous selection.
- Selecting channels used in a cue, group or submaster – Press one of ([CUE] | [GROUP] | [SUB]) followed by (#) or (name) [ENTER] to select the channels stored in the item.
- (palette type) (#) [ENTER] – Select the channels stored in the specified palette ([INTENSITY] | [POSITION] | [COLOR] | [BEAM] | [EDGE] | [SHIFT] + [SUB] ‘PRESET’).
- Using (#) [THRU] [ENTER] – Starting with channel #, select all channels from there to a change in fixture type or an unpatched channel is encountered.
- Using (#) [SHIFT] + [THRU] ‘thru on’ (#) [ENTER] – Selects all channels within the range that have intensities above zero (i.e. active). Leaving off second # will select all active channels up to a change in fixture type or an unpatched channel, starting with the channel specified by the first #.
- Once selected, each channel can be cycled through by use of the [NEXT] & [LAST] keys.
- Selections can be cleared by pressing the [CLEAR SELECTED] key.
Examples:
- [1][0] [ENTER] – Select channel 10
- [1][3] [+] [2][3] [ENTER] – Select channels 13 and 23
- [2][5] [THRU] [3][6] [ENTER] – Select channels 25 through 36
- [4][7] [.] [3] [THRU] [.] [8] [ENTER] – Select subfixture controls 3 through 8 of fixture 47
- [2][5] [THRU] [3][6] [-] [3][0] [THRU] [3][2] [ENTER] – Select channels 25 through 29 and 33 through 36
- [1] [THRU] [1][2] [+] [+] ‘OFFSET’ [3] [ENTER] – For channels 1 through 12, select every 3 channel (i.e. 1, 3, 7, 10).
